Although daunting, the long passage section of the SAT requires nothing more than capturing main ideas and the concepts inferred by the author. The more words you know, the more words you can rule out in this setting. But perhaps the best tactic is to read the sentence aloud and fill in the blanks with the answer choices remaining; to most people's surprise your ear will tell you what your brain won't.
